DECOY, Ky (October 31, 2026) – Troopers, along with Detectives with Kentucky State Police, Post 13 in Hazard initiated a missing person investigation that began in the late evening hours on Thursday, October 29, 2026, following the discovery of an abandon vehicle in the Decoy Community of Knott County. During a search of the area the following day on Friday, October 30, 2026, the remains of Patricia Leighton, 82, of Elyria Ohio, were located several hundred yards from the abandoned vehicle. Preliminary investigation indicates that Leighton who suffered from dementia became disoriented and abandoned her car when it became inoperable. Leighton was pronounced deceased on scene by Knott County Coroners Office. No foul play is suspected at this time. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending. This incident remains under investigation by Detective Chadd Daniels. # # #
